
The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music is the most popular music examination organization in the world. Each year, over 500,000 people worldwide take Associated Board Exams.
The Peggy Still School of Music feels this is the most complete program offered in the world. It covers the following: Performance, Theory, Ear Training, Scales & Arpeggios, and sight-reading.
Associated Board of the Royal School of Music Exam (London, England)
Based in London, England, the Associated Board holds exams in over 80 countries each year. It offers students a clear and structured framework against which they can measure their progress.
Any student of music who passes these exams will have the tools needed to major or minor in music in college or become serious professional musicians. The ABRSM awards special certificates and money to those students passing with Distinction (high scores.) Distinction in Grade 8 leads to eligibility to apply for a scholarship at one of the Royal Schools of Music:
- Royal Academy of Music, London
- Royal College of Music, London
- Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester
- Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Glasgow
Royal School Grade 1 is equivalent to the Alfred or Faber Methods Level 3 Royal School Theory Grade 5 is equivalent to College Theory 101 (many colleges will waive theory requirement if a student has passed ABRSM Theory Grade 5.) Royal School Practical Grade 8 is equivalent to College Entrance Music Requirements/Audition.
Peggy Still School of Music wants to reward those students participating in the exam program. Therefore, any Peggy Still School of Music student passing the Royal Schools' Grade 5 Exams (Practical and Theory) will be entitled a scholarship to attend Peggy Still School of Music.
